Researchers at Trinity College Dublin have created a fun card flip game to introduce kids and grown-up to Irish Sign Language, and to help them learn how to finger-spell their name. The game is part of the ALADDIN project, thanks to Strategic Alignment of Teaching and Learning Enhancement (SATLE) funding.
ISL is the first and/or preferred language of 5000 Deaf people in Ireland. Including family, friends, and co-workers, over 40,000 people use ISL to communicate on a regular basis. Irish Sign Language is different from all other sign languages such as British Sign Language, American Sign Language etc. It is a visual and spatial language with its own distinct grammar. Not only is it a language of the hands, but also of the face and body. Fingerspelling is one form of signing which is used to signify letters of the English alphabet.
